Another Year Over.
Where does the time go ? . This time last year I was planning all the things I was going to do for my 40th year. It’s kind of a big birthday so I felt I needed to set myself some challenges for the year to make it one to remember. Everyone seems to have the big birthdays, parties, holidays and presents galore. I had a lovely birthday weekend with my farmers who did spoil me rotten with a full weekend of surprises but I want to do something for myself. I wanted to set myself some personal challenges for the year and I have managed to them all and some extra as well.
The first thing I wanted to do was travel, I love everything about travel. Seeing new places, meeting new people, eating new foods and even the airport I love. One of the many countries on my to visit list is Iceland so the Friday after my birthday I headed to the travel agent and booked Iceland for a year later. The next thing I wanted to do was join a camera club and start using my camera more. I joined the local one to me, took out the camera and started taking more photos. I had to give up the club due to time pressure in the evenings, I was missing so many of their trips so I was getting no value out of it. I didn’t put the camera away though and still use it more than I did for years.
The next thing I wanted to do was make time to read more, I used to manage a book a week but then I let that slip so out the books came from my to read pile. I had forgotten just how much I love a good book and have been reading two books a month since last October roughly. They were the main tasks I set myself and have managed them all which really shows if you set your mind to something anything is possible. As the year went by I rediscovered my love of art and painting. I am no way talented as an artist and if my life depended on my talent I would die but I find it one of the most relaxing things I do. I started back drawing in June and have hardly missed a day since that I haven’t done some sort of doodles. I also started an Art class in a local school on a Monday night for ten weeks.
I will also remember my 40th year as the year we changed from beef and sheep to dairy. That has been a huge move for us in time, stress and financial challenges but we will be milking our first cows in February 2019 and I cant wait to see our first milk. I also in my 40th year gave up my day job to work at home full time, we are three weeks in now and so far so good. As I type all the things I have done for myself this year I am amazed I actually had any of the time to do them. I am off to Iceland o the 1st of November for 4 days so that will be a nice start to my 41st year.
With all my challenges reached this year now I think its time to set myself some challenges for my 41st year. Maybe it will be something I will continue each year to keep me focused on a set task and not jump from one thing to another. I know one will be to travel again this year because my to visit list is a long one !.
Roll on Friday, my birthday and the start of my 41st year and a whole new set of challenges.
Do you set yourself challenges for the year on your birthday ?
